What are the benefits of simulated altitude?
There are several, some of the most significant that you may experience are:

Why is AIRFIT passive (i.e: Why is no exercise involved?)
The altitudes that AIRFIT simulates are too extreme to exercise at. There is not enough oxygen to exercise safely (without a lot of pre-acclimatization) and there is no need to exercise to receive the benefits, as the stress on the body is great enough to stimulate the positive physiological changes. AIRFIT works on your body to bring about a physiological change.
What do I have to do?
To gain the benefits of AIRFIT, you simply sit in a chair and breathe - alternately high altitude air and sea level via a mask. You can read, listen to music, watch a movie, surf the internet, check your emails, work in peace or simply relax as AIRFIT does the work.
When will I start to see the benefits of the program?
Everyone is different but beneficial changes from as early as day 5 have been reported. However, the full benefits are normally apparent within 5 -15 days of completing either an initial or a booster session.
How long do the benefits of altitude simulation last?
NOW AIRFIT is constantly reviewing the program, however current research suggests that the maximum period is 6-8 weeks between sessions (i.e. the benefits last for 6-8 weeks). That's why AIRFIT recommends clients complete a 5 day booster session every 6-8 weeks to maintain the benefits.
What happens if I miss a booster program?
It depends on the length of time you have been undertaking the AIRFIT program. We recommend you consult your local AIRFIT centre to discuss your situation.
Do you make portable systems that I can take home or can I undertake an AIRFIT program if I'm not located within easy reach of one of your centers?
NOW AIRFIT's altitude simulators are unique as they are a portable system and can be monitored remotely. It is possible to do The Program at home but not always available.
What sort of athletes/people will benefit from using altitude simulation?
Everyone will get some form of benefit from an AIRFIT altitude simulation program. AIRFIT altitude simulation has many and varied sports, health and lifestyle benefits. See 'Why' and 'Who' on the Homepage for more information.
Can the altitude be adjusted?
Any altitude can be set but the NOW AIRFIT program has a set protocol simulating altitudes between 15,000 - 28,000 feet..
Through research NOW AIRFIT has determined that the best results are achieved between these heights. The AIRFIT altitude simulator controls the altitude and any change to the program will only be made after AIRFIT has completed trials that prove the benefit of changing the current protocol.
Why is the AIRFIT program constructed the way it is?
AIRFIT has developed a program that enables quick replication and easy access to the benefits of altitude. The course is structured with an initial base program (15 days) and it is within this period that the major physiological changes will occur.
All the benefits are occurring in the body as a result of the 'stress' the low oxygen air places on it. The adjustments are gradual but as the body learns from the 'stress' it also learns how to reproduce those benefits when similar stress is placed on it during everyday life.
The physiological processes that are stimulated all have a life span, for example red blood cells are produced at a rate of 2 million a second and have a life span of 12 weeks. For this reason the booster sessions (5 days every 6-8 weeks) are needed to ensure that the body is given new stress and therefore the benefits of AIRFIT continue.
AIRFIT is always looking at the program to ensure that it is both the most effective and efficient program available. Any adjustments will be made once they have been researched and proven.
